The biggest problem I see in the houses that I work on are that there
was not enough foresight involved in the initial house plans. 30 years ago planners did not anticipate microwaves and the large amount of electronic gadgets that we have today. If you are about to plan an addition or a new home try to think ahead. Will we know what gadgets the future will bring ? Probably not. However, you know that providing enough electrical outlets conveniently placed and other amenities is a good idea. How about parallel wiring for a 12 volt system for instance just in case you decide to install lower voltage system for solar or wind powered lighting for backup or even primary lighting. You may want to make sure you have wiring for television, music systems, alarm systems and telephones throughout the home for future use. It would be cheaper to install all this now than after the structure was completed. Use your imagination and do your research on using the natural features of your enviroment for cooling, heating and lighting. Even arrangement of household furnishings and which direction the home should face (NSEW) should be in your planning.
